NCA Awards Titles to 10 More Teams After Chaotic Weekend
After a weekend of unexpected events at the NCA Nationals, NCA/Varsity has decided to award national titles to 10 more teams.
This does not affect the results of the competition, but the teams will receive banners, trophies, and jackets! Here’s part of the announcement:
“Due to the unique circumstances presented this weekend, we are going to take the unprecedented step of awarding NCA Titles to 10 additional teams. The teams included were significantly impacted by some of the last minute pivots and score calculations -- and could have won if the competition had occurred as planned with the 25/75 score calculation.
This in no way impacts our current list of NCA National Champions. Those teams rightfully won their titles last weekend.
These new NCA National Champions will not have their titles associated with a specific division. Our division standings online are not changing and there are no score adjustments being made. But we will be sending them an NCA banner, megaphone trophy and National Champion jackets. CONGRATS!”
The teams are:
Bayou Athletics - Cayenne
Cheer Athletics Rockwall - Karma
Golden Elite All Stars - Jr. Riches
LA All Stars - Icons
Liberty Cheer - A-List
Platinum Athletics - Black Ice
Premier Athletics Columbia - Wolf Pac-Shadow
Spirit Xtreme - Passion
The Texas Bandits - 2Bomb
Zero Gravity Athletics - Nova
Changes to Cheer Competition Safety After NCA Chaos
The NCA chaos sparked widespread concerns about safety at cheer competitions, with issues ranging from crowd control to unclear communication.
What’s new: Varsity published a letter addressing the events and promising stricter safety policies for future competitions. The Open Championship (another event producer not affiliated with Varsity) also announced new measures, including a no-alcohol policy and increased police presence.
After all, the events at NCA served as a reminder to prioritize safety for athletes and spectators.
