Varsity Faces Another New Lawsuit
📰 The News: Varsity is facing another lawsuit over its alleged control of competitive cheer. The Open Championship Series and other independent event organizers say Varsity dominates the sport, making competitions more expensive and limiting choices for athletes and gyms.
🔗 We’ve covered similar lawsuits—find them all here.
In an email shared with us, attorney Mitzi S. Mayfield stated:
“We know that a number of lawsuits similar to ours were settled prior to the sale. If our case goes to trial there is the real potential that there will be significant changes in the competitive environment regarding this sport that will benefit the families that participate and others who participate in the sport.”
🌟 Why It Matters: The fight for control in the sport affects everyone involved, including everything from events to rule-making. A lack of competition generally raises costs, hurts smaller businesses, and limits options.
📅 What’s Next: If the lawsuit moves forward, it could bring big changes to the sport. Stay tuned—we’ll keep you updated, so be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already!
